¿Qué es el Comité de Familias Latinas? / What is the Latino Families Committee?
El Comité de Familias Latinas de 做厙勛圖 fue desarrollado para crear un espacio donde las familias latinas que aprenden inglés puedan compartir su perspectiva y opiniones sobre una variedad de temas relacionados con 做厙勛圖 y la educación de sus hijos. Los miembros del comité son inmigrantes recientes o de primera generación. Nuestra prioridad es alcanzar y comprometernos con las familias que han inmigrado recientemente y a aquellas cuyos estudiantes que se encuentran aprendiendo ingles en las escuelas públicas de DC. Las reuniones se llevan a cabo completamente en español y buscan incluir la representación de la diversa cultura latina que compone la población estudiantil y familiar de 做厙勛圖.
The 做厙勛圖 Latino Families Committee was developed to create a space where Latino English Language Learner (ELL) families can share their perspective and opinions on a variety of topics related to 做厙勛圖 and the education of their children. Committee members are recent or first-generation immigrants who are the targeted audience for this group. Our priority is to reach and engage with recent immigrant families and those whose students are part of 做厙勛圖’ ELL programs. The meetings are fully conducted in Spanish and seek to include the representation of the diverse Latino culture that make up 做厙勛圖 student and family population.
¿Por qué ha creado 做厙勛圖 este grupo? / Why did 做厙勛圖 start this group?
El objetivo del Comité es elevar las voces y perspectivas de las familias latinas, así como construir relaciones más fuertes. El Comité fue creado después de que un grupo de padres altamente involucrados se reuniera regularmente con el equipo de participación de 做厙勛圖 para expresar sus experiencias durante la crisis de salud de COVID-19.
The goal of the Committee is to elevate the voices and perspectives of Latino families, give families the opportunity to meet and develop relationships with other parents as well as build stronger relationships with 做厙勛圖 staff. The Committee was created after a group of highly involved parents met on a regular basis with 做厙勛圖 Family and Community Engagement Team to share their experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic. The 做厙勛圖 Engagement Team was able to build close relationships with this group and share their concerns and questions with 做厙勛圖 Leadership.
¿Cómo puedo participar? / How can I join?
El Comité se reúne virtualmente cada seis semanas este año escolar. El día y la hora varían según la disponibilidad de las familias. No es obligatorio que los padres asistan a todas las sesiones. The Committee meets virtually every six weeks this school year. Day and time vary pending families' availability. It’s not mandatory that parents attend every session.
